The Best Newsletter Formats

Many people are starting their own newsletters nowadays. However, some people face a perplexing situation when trying to decide on which format to use for their newsletter. A newsletter can be published in one of three formats. It can be either published as a plain text newsletter or as an HTML newsletter or as a PDF newsletter. It would be unwise to choose a format just because you feel like doing so. In order to make the right choice, you need to first know the characteristics of the different newsletter formats.

Newsletters are more commonly published in the text format than any other format. Several reasons contribute to this preference. One reason is that they are easy to set up and the second is that all email service providers can deal with them properly.

HTML newsletters are growing rapidly in popularity because they give the publisher a lot more option than a plain text newsletter. The publisher can freely customize the newsletter to suit his own needs. He can add photos, insert hyperlinks, draw tables, and play around with colors and fonts.

Among all the three formats, PD newsletters are the least commonly used by the newsletter publishing community. They are quite difficult to make and cannot be read by subscriber directly into their email inbox. They need to be downloaded or read in an independent browser window.

You certainly are not going to publish your newsletter in all the different newsletter formats. All you need is one format. That format must be chosen carefully and for practical reasons. Your reason should overpower your emotions. If you are going to pick HTML just because you like colors and graphics, you may not be making the right choice. However, if you think that this might help you increase conversion or subscribers then go for it.
